Housed in what was original the Palace of Fine Arts from Chicago's World Fair, the Museum of Science and Industry first opened in 1933 and was recently renamed after a major donation in 2024.
Up until the 90s the museum housed a lot of its larger objects on the front lawn including the Zephyr, U Boat, and Train No. 999.
I was so impressed with how many staff and volunteers keep this museum running. They have so many interactive exhibits and volunteers that just wander around holding experiments for visitors to participate in. I would recommend this museum to anyone in the area as a can't miss.
The Coal Mine experience and U Boat Tour do have an additional cost. For the U 505 they have a lot of information surrounding the purpose built space and its well worth the visit just to see the sheer scale of the submarine.
