We Love a Fun Fact

I'm all about asking questions and learning new things. Below you'll find a list of some of my favorite facts that I've learned during my adventures.

Mantua Dress

Just imagine the size closet one might need to store a dress this size. On display at the National Museum of Scotland this dress actually came apart in panels to store flat. Additionally the shape is help up by a hoop skirt underneath similar to other large dresses you might be familiar with.

Hiding Evidence of A
Midnight Snack

During renovations of some of the tapestries at Chatsworth, the restoration team found 2 candy wrappers stuffed in between the tapestry and the wall. They were able to date the candy wrappers to the 2nd World War when the house was used as a school for girls.

In through the Window

One of my favorite things to ponder at museums is how large items were sourced and placed on display. When reading a book about the history of the Smithsonian museums I came across what is now one of my favorite photos. The 1401 coming in through the side of the building.

Stockpiling Stone

The Smithsonian Castle was built in 1855 and made from Seneca Red Sandstone from a quarry up the C&O canal that closed in 1901. Knowing they would have to one day refurbish the castle the Smithsonian has been stockpiling Seneca Stone for 50 years.

Historic Flags at the FBI

Outside the FBI building on Pennsylvania Avenue are historic flags from America's past. Next time you walk past take a look and see if you can spot the differences.

Louis Vuitton Scaffolding

When I first started seeing pictures of this building I genuinely thought it was AI. While the New York City flagship store undergoes renovations the team took 3D scans of their icon trunks to scale up and turn the scaffolding into 6 stacking trunks. The heaviest lock is said to weight over 5,000 pounds.
