The American Museum of Natural History was established in 1869 and what started as 1 building now spans 21 interconnected buildings across 2.5 million sq ft.
Originally housed in the Arsenal in central park the museum's first purpose built structure was opened in 1877. A vocal stim of my family is based on this museum as uttered in the animated classic We're Back a Dinosaur Story.
Make sure you grab a map because its easy to get lost amongst the interconnected buildings. In going to more and more museums I'm starting to appreciate the different ways museums choose to display their collections.
You walk amongst the dinosaurs and ancient mammal , getting up close and personal with ancient fossils. In the gems and minerals exhibit the way they've chosen to display the fine gems is probably one of my favorites. Its so neat and tidy which makes it extremely aesthetically pleasing.
